Marketing Mistakes You Can’t Afford To Make

Everyone makes marketing mistakes when they market their business. Here are some that you can’t afford to make when you market your business.

Keeping the plan you have. If your marketing plan is good enough today, that doesn’t mean it will be good enough tomorrow. Staying ahead of the game is the way to make it today, and to keep your marketing plan in place for the future.

Don’t pad your marketing with hype and jargon. It underestimates your customers, and it’s just in poor taste.

Always test your new marketing ideas on others to get their feedback. See if your ideas are memorable, and your message is easy to remember. If people don’t remember the name of your product or your company, your ad isn’t doing its job.

You should be able to trust your marketing person, and allow them to do their job. A marketing plan isn’t written in stone, and it should be able to change rapidly if it isn’t working, so you should always monitor it closely. Your marketing person should be able to see what’s working and what’s not.

On the other hand, you have to give your marketing plan enough time to work, before you pull the plug and start another plan. Give your plan at least three or more tries before retiring it; giving the public time to get used to it.

You can’t be shy with your marketing. You have to be bold, even if it backfires. Sometimes bad publicity can be good for you, even if it doesn’t seem so at the time. It may make people remember your name, and six months from now, that can be a good thing.

Always be curious. Find out why a new ad is working well, and ask your customers what they remember about the ad, and why it’s working well.

Use free marketing options to help keep your marketing costs under wraps. If you’re an expert, you can become a press expert and give interviews for free on subjects that relate to your business.

Always carry your business cards and brochures with you, and don’t be afraid to hand them out to others wherever you go.

You don’t have to follow the rules in marketing, break them if you need to when you need to get your message across to others. If you market your business effectively, and try not to make these marketing mistakes, you’ll market your business better, and that can only make your business more successful.
