Facebook recently updated the News Feed algorithm, this time with the hopes of presenting users with more “high quality content” like articles, relevant news and current events. The updated algorithm means that users can expect more news and story links to appear in their News Feed.
Varun Kacholia, an engineering manager, and Minwen Ji, a software engineer, wrote on Facebook’s blog this Monday that, “this means that high quality articles you or others read may show up a bit more prominently in your News Feed, and meme photos may show up a bit less prominently.”
What does that mean for your business?
Well it means that you may need to tweak the content you have been publishing. If you were publishing funny pictures and memes, they may no longer be as effective as before. Facebook will be doing a better job of distinguishing between high quality articles being published versus a meme photo. To better position your business on Facebook you will need to make sure that you are sharing content that is relevant, high in content quality and informative.
Overall these updates are a reflection of Facebook’s continued push to be the go-to platform for news and staying up-to-date with what’s going on around you.
