How AI Lead Scoring Helps Local Businesses Win More Customers

For a local business, getting a new lead is only the beginning.

A customer calls while you’re with another client. Someone fills out a form after hours. Another prospect sends a message asking about pricing, availability, or an urgent service.

When you’re juggling customers, employees, scheduling, and day-to-day operations, it can be difficult to know which opportunities need your attention first.

That’s where AI lead scoring can help.

Instead of treating every inquiry the same, AI can analyze lead information and customer interactions to help identify which opportunities show stronger buying signals. That gives you a clearer way to prioritize follow-up, respond with more context, and make the most of the leads your business is already generating.

It’s also part of a bigger shift in how local businesses can approach growth.

Instead of piecing together separate tools to attract leads, manage customers, follow up, and measure results, the Thryv Growth Platform brings those capabilities together so you can see what’s working and where to focus next.

AI lead scoring is the process of using artificial intelligence to evaluate lead information and identify which prospects are most likely to become customers.

Traditional lead management often relies on manual review or simple rules. You might work through inquiries in the order they arrive or try to remember which conversations seemed most promising.

But not every lead has the same level of intent.

Someone asking a general question may still be researching. Another prospect may be comparing prices. A third may be ready to schedule an appointment today.

AI lead scoring helps surface those differences.

Thryv AI Lead Insights, for example, helps businesses evaluate incoming opportunities with an AI-powered 1-to-5 lead score. The feature analyzes customer interactions to surface useful insights, including conversation summaries, recommended action items, and smart tags, so businesses can get a clearer view of their leads.

The result isn’t just another number to track. It’s a faster way to understand which leads may need attention and why.

Knowing which leads are most likely to become customers is useful. Knowing why they’re showing strong buying signals and what to do next is even more valuable.

That’s where AI lead scoring goes beyond a simple number.

With Thryv AI Lead Insights, that score becomes part of a bigger picture. Instead of starting from scratch with every new inquiry, you can quickly see the key details behind a lead, understand what the customer needs, and identify a logical next step. This gives you more context to decide which opportunities deserve your attention first.

Here’s what that can look like with AI Lead Insights:

• AI Lead Score: See a 1-to-5 score that helps indicate lead quality and purchase intent.
• Conversation Summary: Get a quick overview of what the customer discussed so you can understand their needs without digging through the entire interaction.
• Recommended Action Items: See suggested next steps based on the conversation, helping you move from insight to follow-up faster.
• Smart Tags: Get additional context about the lead, including information about intent and tone.
• Lead Source Information: Understand where opportunities are coming from so you can see which channels are contributing to your pipeline.

Together, these insights can help you prioritize your time more effectively.

Imagine a local plumber receiving three new inquiries. One customer is researching water heater prices. Another wants to know whether the business serves their area. A third says their water heater is leaking and asks if someone can come out today.

All three are potential opportunities, but they aren’t at the same stage of the buying journey.

AI-powered insights can help surface the urgency and intent behind those conversations, giving the business owner a clearer starting point for follow-up. Instead of working through every inquiry in the order it arrived, they can focus first on the opportunity that may need immediate attention.

The benefit isn’t simply knowing which lead scored highest. It’s having the context to understand the opportunity and decide what to do next.

That can mean less time sorting through conversations, faster follow-up on promising opportunities, and a more informed approach to turning leads into customers.

Getting found online is still an important part of growing a local business. But generating leads is only one part of the customer journey.

What happens after someone finds you matters, too.

That’s where the new Thryv Growth Platform comes in.

Rather than managing marketing, customer relationships, AI insights, reporting, and automation as disconnected pieces, Thryv brings them together to help businesses manage more of the customer journey in one place.

That means businesses can work toward:

Getting found → Capturing leads → Understanding opportunities → Prioritizing follow-up → Measuring results

AI lead scoring plays an important role in the middle of that journey by helping businesses understand which opportunities deserve attention.

The bigger benefit is having the tools and insights to act on that information.

For years, local marketing has centered on one question:

How do I get more people to find my business?

Today, there’s another question worth asking:

How do I make the most of the people who already find me?

AI lead scoring helps answer that second question.

It gives local businesses another way to understand customer intent, prioritize opportunities, and make follow-up more focused.

Combined with automation, customer management, marketing, and reporting, those insights can become part of a more connected growth strategy.

That’s the larger opportunity with the Thryv Growth Platform. It’s not about replacing everything you already use. It’s about bringing the pieces of your business together so you have a clearer view of what’s driving leads, customers, and growth.

Winning customers isn’t just about getting noticed.

It’s about knowing what happens after someone finds you.

AI lead scoring can help businesses recognize stronger opportunities, understand customer needs, and decide where to focus their attention. And when those insights are connected to the rest of your marketing and customer management, they become even more useful.

The goal isn’t simply to generate more leads.

It’s to make the most of the opportunities your business already earns. Because growing a local business isn’t just about finding more customers. It’s about knowing which opportunities to pursue and having the tools to turn them into customers.

With the Thryv Growth Platform, businesses can bring marketing, customer management, AI insights, reporting, and automation together to help turn those opportunities into meaningful growth.

You work hard to generate leads. Make the most of them with smarter insights, faster follow-up, and tools that help you stay focused on what matters.
