For years, Mordechai Phelps built Mr. Mini Split on referrals and word-of-mouth: do great work, charge a fair price, and let referrals bring in the next customer.
It worked. Until it didn’t
As his HVAC business grew, Mordechai realized that a strong reputation and quality service weren’t enough to keep up with how customers were finding businesses. His website was outdated; his business wasn’t showing prominently in Google Search, and keeping his information accurate across online directories was taking hours he could have spent running the business.
Then he partnered with Thryv.
The goal wasn’t simply to get more attention online. It was to make Mr. Mini Split easier to find, easier to trust, and easier to contact when local customers were ready to hire an HVAC professional.

The problem: Great service wasn’t enough to get found
Mordechai started Mr. Mini Split from scratch, operating out of the back of a Pontiac Grand Am. Referrals helped keep the business moving, but as he looked to grow, he needed a way to reach customers beyond his immediate neighborhood.
His online presence was getting in the way.
The website didn’t reflect the quality of the work Mr. Mini Split delivered. The business had limited visibility in Google Search. And managing information across multiple online platforms meant spending hours behind a computer instead of focusing on customers.
Mordechai also knew how expensive it could be to rely on paid advertising alone. Before Thryv, he was spending $30,000 to $40,000 a year on Google ads and said that investment generated only about five jobs.
He needed a better way to build long-term visibility.
Building a stronger presence in search
One of the biggest changes came from improving how Mr. Mini Split appeared online.
Through Thryv’s SEO and AEO services, Mordechai was able to strengthen his online presence and improve his visibility in local search.
The difference was dramatic.
Before working with Thryv, Mordechai says he was somewhere around page 17 in Google Search. Today, Mr. Mini Split ranks #1 in its Hudson Valley market.

Before Thryv, I was somewhere between page 17 and a million. Now I’m number one on the first page.

That visibility matters because customers searching for an HVAC company aren’t necessarily looking for a specific business. They’re looking for a solution.
When Mr. Mini Split appears when those customers search, the business has an opportunity to earn the call instead of letting that customer find a competitor first.
Making every online listing work harder
Showing up in search is only part of the equation. Customers also need to see accurate, consistent information wherever they find a business.
For Mr. Mini Split, managing that information used to take valuable time.
With Thryv’s Online Listings Management, Mordechai can update his business information across more than 50 online platforms from a single dashboard. Instead of manually logging into directory after directory, changes can be made in seconds.
That consistency helps create a stronger online presence while giving Mordechai something even more valuable: time back.
His computer time dropped from roughly four hours a day to about 30 minutes, saving three to four hours every day.
His website also got an upgrade, giving prospective customers a more professional first impression that better reflects the quality of his work.

More visibility created more opportunities
Getting found online is valuable. Getting the right customers to reach out is even better.
That’s where Thryv Leads became another important part of the growth story.
Mordechai initially approached Thryv Leads with some skepticism and a small budget. But within two months, the results were strong enough that he doubled his investment. Instead of spending time sorting through scam calls and price shoppers, he was getting more qualified opportunities from customers who were ready to book.
The impact on conversion was significant.
Mordechai went from closing roughly out of every 20 leads to closing 16 to 18 out of 20 qualified incoming leads, increasing his close rate from around 10% to 85–90%.
That’s an important distinction for any growing business: More leads only matter when you have a process for turning them into customers.

From better visibility to bigger growth
The combination of stronger search visibility, more consistent listings, a professional website, and qualified leads helped Mr. Mini Split reach a new level of growth.
In the same three-month period year over year, revenue increased from $120,000 to more than $600,000.
That’s 5X revenue growth.
At the same time, Mr. Mini Split generated 85% more leads across all channels and reached an 85–90% close rate on qualified incoming leads.
The growth has also changed what Mordechai can think about next.
He’s purchasing new vehicles, hiring new employees, and working toward opening a new shop.
For a business that started in the back of a Pontiac Grand Am, that’s a pretty big leap.
Growth starts with being found
Mr. Mini Split’s story is a reminder that online visibility isn’t just a marketing metric. For a local business, being found can be the first step toward winning the next customer, generating more revenue, and creating room to grow.
Mordechai had already built the foundation: quality service, fair pricing, and a commitment to his customers.
Thryv helped him build the digital foundation to match.
Today, Mr. Mini Split has a stronger presence in search, consistent business information across 50+ platforms, more qualified leads, and a business that’s actively expanding.
And for Mordechai, the biggest change may be knowing that when customers search for an HVAC company in the Hudson Valley, they can actually find him.
