Marketing is full of false dichotomies, with pundits often behaving as if all the various channels are somehow mutually exclusive. You don’t have to give up print for digital, you don’t have to give up SEO for paid search, and you certainly don’t have to give up email marketing for social media.
This infographic, which we discovered on Visual.ly, does a pretty good job of breaking down the benefits of email and social media marketing. It highlights the similarities (both are low cost, easy to track, and provide measurable results) as well as those areas where they complement one another (email is great for repeat business, while social media is awesome at generating brand awareness).
Anyway, the point is you shouldn’t be trying to decide if one channel is better than the other. Instead, you should focus on the benefits both can provide when it comes to marketing your business.
