1. Set a Timeline

Set a timeline of weekly and monthly marketing activities. Always be looking for ways to improve your website, regardless of how successful you are. 2. Segment the Competition
Use free online tools to find out who your real competitors are in the local marketplace. The search results might all look the same to you, but to Google they aren’t. Using Freegrader.com, I was able to analyze the Dallas marketplace for plumbing services, and discover a few websites that stood out above the rest.
Baker Brothers, for example, utilizes a mobile website, social media, and dozens of customers reviews to ensure they won’t be pushed off the first page of Google easily. Don’t be afraid to mirror those same techniques on your own website. It’s easy to get lost a sea of blue links, so when it comes to your competition, work smarter not harder.
3. Silo Your Website
When Google is trying to decide where to rank your website, the more good quality pages it see’s about a topic, the more likely it is to give that page better rankings. This concept is called creating a silo of content, and it’s something most of your competitors won’t do properly.
When customers search for products surrounding a given topic, give yourself the best possible chance to show up. If you really wanted a good source of information, would you read a few notes scribbled on a napkin, or a 30 page study? It’s the same concept with your website. More quality content is better for your customers, and better for your position in Google.
4. Don’t Stop at #1
The problem with having goals, is that often times we stop trying after we achieve them. In the case of a local business, their goal might be achieve #1 rankings in Google for a certain keyword or phrase. That’s a good place to start, but you shouldn’t stop there.
