When doing any kind of web analytics there are three important checkpoints to keep in mind.
- The first checkpoint is to make sure it is installed correctly.
- The second is to make sure that it is capturing the right kind of data and have the ability to view it.
- The third is to get in a strategic mindset to extract valuable insights to help improve your goals and conversions.
Below I’ve compiled some useful browser plugins that touch on each of these key checkpoints. There are a lot of different plugins available for different browsers. Hopefully these plugins will help point you in the right direction and make your life easier.
Verify if Web Analytics is Installed
GA? – Is Google Analytics Installed? – This is a Firefox plugin that will detect if you have installed Google Analytics correctly. Remember that it is wise to install web analytics code on every single page of your website. You can never understand your customers if you don’t track how they behave on your website. Just in case you missed it, don’t forget to read my tips on how to track user behavior.
*Footnote: If you’re using asynchronous tracking on your website, this plugin unfortunately does not support that.
View Analytics on the Fly
Daily Stats for Google Analytics – This is a plugin for Google Chrome. Get this extension if you’re tired of logging into Google Analytics every time you want to look at your site analytics. This extension is great if you just want to quickly view how your site is performing for the day.
*Footnote: Typically I would recommend not viewing your statistics on a day to day basis. I would recommend looking at a longer timeframe when making important decisions, however, this plugin is great if you just want to to see a quick snapshot. If you notice a unusual spike/decline this plugin can tip you off so you can log into Google Analytics proper to do some further analysis.
How Viral is your Site?
Social Analytics – This is another plugin for Google Chrome. Have you ever wondered how many social shares your site is getting? Even if you don’t have any social sharing options on your site, people are still talking about you on other networks. This plugin lets you see where people are sharing your site by simply detecting the URL’s mentioned in other social networks.
*Footnote: It is becoming more important that businesses become more social. Customers are having conversations about your business whether you like it or not. It is valuable to you as a business to participate in those conversations and listen to their feedback.
